As Rangers ran out comfortable 2-0 winners against Kilmarnock at Ibrox fans were treated to an appearance from Ibrox legend Walter Smith on the RangersTV panel, who believes the club need a little bit extra to go to the next level.

The Ibrox club’s much-lauded media set-up has been a revelation in the early part of the season as the club invest in top quality coverage amid behind-closed-door games.

The appearance of former manager Walter Smith – whose two spells at Ibrox remain the stuff of legend – was certainly a big treat for the Rangers support.

Now 72, Smith’s knowledge and tactical insight was evident as pundits Neil McCann and Alex Rae hung on the Rangers legend’s every word.

Speaking about the pressure involved at Ibrox and need to constantly break teams down, Smith also believes that the club need “a little bit extra” if they’re to reach their full complement.

The iconic ex-Gers gaffer is hoping that new signings Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten – who reportedly cost a combined £6m – can provide it.

“With the likes of Mark Hateley, you had an easy option,” said 9IAR winning coach Smith [Rangers].

“The players at the present moment they’ve got to find a way through, they’ve got thread the ball through.

“It takes a lot – people underestimate a lot of the time the lads that are involved in Scottish football.

“They can set up their team to make it really difficult, so you’ve got to have a high standard and maybe a little bit more individual ability than a lot of them are showing at Rangers at present.

“Even someone who’s good in the air – and Itten who’s new, may prove like that.

“Rangers seem to have reached a reasonable balance over the last year or so but there’s just that little bit extra needed and hopefully one or two of the new boys can come up with something.”

Here’s how the Ibrox support reacted to Walter’s appearance on RangersTV as the club broke a 91-year-old record and started the season with five straight clean sheets:
