Rangers fans have reacted with delight after the club confirmed that an agreement is in place to sign Ianis Hagi from Genk [Rangers.co.uk].
The news many supporters have been hoping for, for several weeks, finally arrived on Wednesday evening.
Following reports on Tuesday that the club had agreed a £3 million fee plus add-ons for the Romania international [Glasgow Times], the club confirmed that he has accepted a ‘permanent, long-term deal’ at Ibrox.
Hagi made 12 appearances whilst on loan with the club over the second half of the curtailed 2019/20 season, scoring three goals and registering two assists.
The playmaker had been linked with several high-profile European clubs and confirmed that there were others vying for his signature.
“I am excited about re-joining the squad for pre-season and putting on the famous shirt once again,” said Hagi, as quoted by Rangers.co.uk. “There was interest from other clubs, but my priority was always to return to Glasgow and play for Rangers.”
“I really enjoyed my loan spell at Ibrox and look forward to playing in front of our fans very soon, but for now I hope all of the Rangers fans and your families are staying safe and well.”
Gers sporting director Ross Wilson expressed his thanks to Genk for their “openness, flexibility and creativity” in the negotiations, suggesting some significant alterations were made to the initial terms of the option to buy.
The deal will go through when the transfer window officially opens.
Scores of fans had been begging the club to make an announcement all day and when it finally came, there was a lot of excitement.
Clearly, many believe that although the 21-year-old is a work in progress, he has the potential to make a major impact next season.
