Rangers academy striker Chris McKee has spoken to RangersTV following an outstanding display for the U18s.

The Northern Ireland youth international came off the bench at the Highland Football Academy to score a quick-fire hat-trick in a 7-0 win over Inverness Caley Thistle on Friday night.

Despite being only being introduced in the second-half with the Gers already 3-0 up, he still managed to make a major impression, notching the last three goals of the game.

“I’m delighted, I was disappointed not to start the game, but I thought I came on and showed what I was about,” McKee told RangersTV.

“Confidence is flying so it is, so many different boys getting pushed up to the Reserves and getting opportunities. It’s great to see and everyone is playing their part.”

“Back up here for the third time in a row,” he said with a wry smile when asked to preview next week’s Cup clash against Ross County. “I’m just not looking forward to the bus journey! But it’ll be a tough game, especially playing on their first team pitch, so it’ll make it more of a challenge, but hopefully, we can get the result and get through.”

McKee has impressed at both club and youth international level this season, scoring freely for Rangers and also netting a brace for Northern Ireland U19s against the Faroe Islands back in September.

After reluctantly settling for a spot on the bench this time around, his rapid hat-trick will surely be enough to get him into the starting XI for next week’s game.

The youngster’s personality certainly came across in this post-match chat too, with plenty of Bears subsequently praising him for both his scoring exploits and his interview skills.
