Rangers fans have rallied around playmaker Ianis Hagi amid a lacklustre start to the season from the 21-year-old.
Hagi proved a big hit with supporters whilst on loan at Ibrox over the second half of last season, mainly due to his exploits in the Europa League.
The Romania international scored twice to start and complete a stunning comeback for the Gers against Braga at Ibrox, before providing a brilliant assist for the Ryan Kent goal in Portugal which secured the club’s passage to the last 16.
Despite only having a few months to look at him before football was suspended amid the global health crisis, the Rangers recruitment team opted to pursue a permanent deal for Hagi and brought him in on a long-term deal for a reported £3 million in late May [Scottish Sun].
Many supporters hoped that he would be a standout performer in the Premiership and a strong display in pre-season against Lyon suggested he was ready to hit the ground running.
His performances have been somewhat lacklustre to date, though.
At Aberdeen on the opening day, Hagi looked out of sync as he lost possession on several occasions and fired wild shots over the bar.
Further frustrating performances have followed against St Mirren and St Johnstone, with the attacker yet to register a goal or an assist in the league.
Hagi played a role in the build-up to Ryan Kent’s excellent goal against the Saints on Wednesday night, though, and plenty of supporters took to social media after the game to rally around the young talent.
