Rangers fans have said farewell to Andy Halliday after it was announced on Tuesday evening that he and five other players would soon leave the club.

First team players Halliday, Wes Foderingham and Jon Flanagan struggled for game time this season and will not see their current deals extended, while Jordan Rossiter, Jak Alnwick and Jason Holt have come to the end of their Gers contracts following loan spells elsewhere.

It was Halliday’s departure that received the most attention on social media, not necessarily because he was the best player of the bunch, but because it’s well known that he’s a lifelong bluenose.

After being let go from the Rangers academy as a youngster, the versatile operator began his pro career at Livingston and spent time in England before earning his dream move to Ibrox in 2015.

Since then, either side of a bizarre loan stint at Azerbaijani club Gabala during the Pedro Caixinha era, he made 152 appearances in all competitions.

He has never been the most technically gifted member of the squad and the recruitment team are likely now looking for better quality in the pursuit of silverware.

Yet, he does have a good left foot and showed 100% commitment every time he wore the jersey, even winning Man of the Match during the landmark 1-0 Old Firm win at Ibrox in December 2018.

Few supporters protested the decision to let Halliday go but many rallied around him on social media and wished him good luck with his next move.
