Rangers fans question “double standards” after Euro 2020 Fan Zone move

Rangers fans have been kicked from pillar to post in the aftermath of the club’s Trophy Day celebrations but double standards are not exactly something new to the Ibrox club’s support.

Gers fans are regularly a whipping post for rivals in Scotland and this has certainly intensified in the aftermath of the title victory and given the current ruling party in the country.

But whilst double standards are nothing new to Gers fans, it doesn’t stop them calling them out when they happen.

The latest concerns an agreed Fan Zone ahead of Euro 2020 where football fans will be allowed to attend a designated area in Glasgow Green throughout the tournament.

The outdoor event space – which can hold up to 6000 people – has been signed off by the Scottish Government and will take place throughout the entire tournament [BBC Scotland].

This also comes after SFA chief executive claims there is “no plan B” regarding fans attending matches at Hampden with 12k set to visit the stadium despite Glasgow being in tier 3.

This has obviously caught the attention of Rangers fans who’ve taken dogs abuse off senior government officials despite the fact these people failed in their responsibility to facilitate the club’s celebrations.

There were repeated warnings about potential gatherings in the aftermath of the victory yet the SNP-led government did very little to ensure public safety despite continuously bleating about it.

Rangers even suggested letting 10k supporters into Ibrox over four days to ensure fans got the chance to see their heroes and that celebrations were contained.

It’s not just Rangers fans who’ve felt the brunt of the government’s approach to club supporters –  Hibs and St Johnstone fans had their 600 tickets removed at the last minute from the weekend’s Scottish Cup Final.

But with Scotland’s participation in a major tournament something which these guys politically could not miss, it seems like Covid is smart enough to differentiate between the club and international games.

Rangers fans haven’t missed a trick and have called these charlatans out in the aftermath of the decision after over a week of negative and divisive commentary:

Rangers fans title celebrations were over the piece joyous with the events of the day marred by the behaviour of a minority of drink-fuelled idiots.

Nonetheless, Rangers fans continue to be berated by the government as the players are officially admonished of any wrongdoing and politicians continue to backtrack.
