Rangers fans have praised former manager Walter Smith after he made a quip about Celtic’s 2019/20 Premiership title during a Sky Sports interview.
There has been plenty of debate since the SPFL formally ended the top-flight season last week, declaring Celtic champions and relegating Hearts based on a points per game model.
While Neil Lennon described it as his best achievement yet as Celtic boss, many Rangers fans have asserted that this title is tainted because the season was not completed on the pitch.
Most have accepted that given the Gers were 13 points behind with only one game in hand, the Hoops were massive favourites for the league.
However, as it wasn’t mathematically won before the global health crisis halted fixtures, it’s seen as carrying less weight than previous titles.
It seems that’s a view shared by legendary Ibrox figure, Walter Smith, as this excerpt from a Sky Sports interview shows.
“For Rangers, there have been a lot of years now where Celtic have been uppermost in the league and have had a really good team,” he said. “They’ve managed to win nine championships in a row, well, eight championships in a row and now this one.”
The comment sparked a large number of angry reactions from rivals supporters but many Bears felt the highly decorated former manager summed things up perfectly.
