Rangers fans have praised Jermain Defoe on Twitter after the player represented the first team at the opening of the new Rangers store at Ibrox.

After months of renovation work the store was reopened on Thursday, much to the delight of fans who flocked to the stadium to snap up all sorts of new Castore products.

With all fit senior players in Germany for the Europa League last 16 clash against Bayer Leverkusen, it wasn’t possible to have multiple star names in attendance.

“Great to represent the First Team at the opening of the new Rangers store at Ibrox,” he wrote on Twitter.”An historic day for our club.”

“Well done to the boys at Castore too. The support of our fans has been incredible.”

Defoe has immersed himself in the culture of Rangers since arriving in Glasgow, speaking highly about the scale of the club and it’s fanbase during his time on loan from Bournemouth.

There was never any doubt that he was going to join on a permanent deal when his Cherries contract expired and now the former Spurs, West Ham, Portsmouth, Sunderland and Toronto FC striker is using ‘our club’ when referring to the Gers.
