Rangers fans heaped praise on Ianis Hagi as he bit back against his critics in an impressive showing in the 3-0 win over St. Johnstone.
The Romanian midfielder, 21, has somewhat unfairly come under fire from numerous press outlets in his homeland as he naturally drops in and out of the Rangers side.
Handed an opportunity to start against the Perthshire saints, Hagi took it with both hands as he scored Rangers’ third goal and his third of the season at McDiarmid Park.
That means the midfielder has scored in his last two starts for Rangers, the midfielder scoring the second goal in the 2-0 win over Lech Poznan in the Europa League earlier in the month.
Against St. Johnstone Hagi was a creative addition to the starting lineup, the midfielder’s nimble footwork and attacking positioning a constant thorn in the Saints’ side.
The midfielder’s goal came directly after the restart as Hagi fired in a low shot which escaped St. Johnstone keeper Zander Clark.
This was after Hagi helped secure the opener with a low driving shot which was parried out into the path of Kemar Roofe to get the scoring underway in the first half.

It’s not just been by press outlets or key Romanian footballing figures – such as Marcel Puscas – where Hagi has been receiving a lot of unwarranted criticism.
A Brazilian footballing legend who made his name with Barcelona also claimed Hagi should move on from Rangers in the search of first-team football.
