After Paul Gascoigne had a Scottish Football Hall of Fame dinner cancelled, Rangers fans are planning a special Gazza semi-final in tribute.
On the 28th of October Rangers play Aberdeen in the Betfred Cup semi-final. Many Rangers fans see it as a chance to show solidarity and support with one of Rangers and Scottish Football’s most revered talents.
The idea has been spoke about online and on Twitter, and you can read more about it here on Follow Follow.
Whilst there is absolutely nothing official at the moment, fans are hoping the idea gains traction. The original dinner for his Hall of Fame induction was to take place on the 21st of October. One week later Rangers fans can ensure that Paul Gascoigne gets the Hampden celebration he deserves.
Aberdeen the perfect opponents
The Sheep were the victims in arguably Gazza’s most iconic moment for Rangers. In 1995/96 Gascoigne clinched the title for Rangers at Ibrox against Aberdeen in style.
The world class midfielder scored a hattrick.
It would remain arguably his greatest and most iconic showing in a Rangers shirt. The midfielder spent three years at Ibrox in the 90s playing 104 games and scoring 39 goals.
If the Gazza semi-final does happen, then there are fewer teams more suitable as opponents than Aberdeen.
Gazza semi-final would send strong message
Paul Gascoigne had such a massive impact on Scottish football when he joined in the 90s. The midfielder brought the footballing world’s gaze to Scotland and Ibrox Park.
They’ll never take that away from him. He’s also already in the Rangers Hall of Fame. The only Hall of Fame that really matters.
By getting behind him with a display or theme for that Betfred Cup semi, it sends a strong message.
Rangers are behind you Gazza.
