As the debate over Rangers captain James Tavernier rages on at Ibrox, spare a thought for Arsenal fans and their captain Granit Xhaka.
Whilst the hysteria surrounding Tav from some quarters is bordering on an embarrassment, Xhaka and Arsenal are in the full-blown middle of one right now.
The Arsenal captain reacted angrily to jeers from the crowd after his side threw away a two-goal lead and another two points in a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace at the weekend.
The cringe is intense and whilst you can understand the fans frustration at an underachieving Arsenal side, no-one comes out of this looking well.
With time to play, the support should be geeing up their players and trying to get that extra inch from them as the game goes to the wire.
From Xhaka’s point of view, he’s a paid professional with a responsibility to the image of the club and his reaction is embarrassing.
What’s this got to do with Rangers? Well, look at the fall-out of this Tavernier nonsense in the last couple of weeks.
A corner finally appears to have been turned with Steven Gerrard coming out and taking a dig at those fans who’re constantly on the captain’s case [RangersTV].

Unlike Granit Xhaka, James Tavernier is not the kind of player to spit the dummy (as evidenced by his comments in the wake of the criticism [Daily Record]).
But as a support, Rangers fans must get in front of this, get behind the team and get behind captain James Tavernier.
Could you be bothered with all the nonsense which happened at the Emirates this weekend?
