The prophetic words of BBC Scotland chief sportswriter Tom English regarding Celtic’s 10IAR charge have been amusing Rangers fans after they resurfaced online.
The journalist hasn’t always been the most popular man at Ibrox – likewise, Rangers haven’t always been the most popular club with Tom – and the BBC chief was adamant Celtic wouldn’t slip up in their quest.
Speaking after the appointment of Gerrard, English claims that Celtic were so far ahead of Rangers that they’d romp to success in a take which pretty much sums up much of the self-indulgent media coverage in Scotland.
The take is from popular Irish YouTube channel Off the Ball and is an absolute cracker.
“I think Rangers’ only hope is if another club comes in for Odsonne Edouard and he leaves,” said English [Twitter].
“If another club comes in for Calum McGregor, who’s an underrated player outside Scotland, and he leaves.
“If a few other people leave, if Scott Brown’s massive influence – even if he is like 52 years of age – Scott Brown is still the most influential midfielder, probably the most influential player in Scotland, he’s a huge leader for Celtic.
“Rangers are going to need an awful lot of things to happen, not just at Ibrox, but at Celtic – the levels at Celtic will have to drop significantly for Rangers to catch them – and at the moment you cannot see it happening.”

Despite the immense progress made by Steven Gerrard at Ibrox so many pundits and Celtic-led personalities were adamant that Rangers could not catch them.
It just makes the club’s march to 55 all the sweeter with the Ibrox side surely out of sight in the title race now.
