Rangers fans have heaped praise on Scott Arfield after the midfielder put in a tireless shift during Wednesday night’s Europa League triumph over Braga.

The Gers emerged 1-0 winners on the night and 4-2 victors on aggregate to progress through to the last 16 of the competition.

George Edmundson received major acclaim for his showing in the heart of the defence, but there were excellent performers throughout the side and Arfield certainly played his part in midfield.

The Canada international has enjoyed something of a renaissance in 2020 after an indifferent first half of the season.

He’s looked much more at home having moved back into a traditional midfield role and has rediscovered his scoring touch, netting six times in 12 games since the winter break.

There was to be no goal for him in Portugal, but he was at his niggly best in the middle of the park.

The 31-year-old tackled and broke play up well, while also supporting attacks and looking to play others in behind the high opposition line.

He perhaps should have done better when sent through on goal himself in the early stages, but alongside Steven Davis and Ryan Jack, he helped the Gers impose themselves against the classy Portuguese.

There was widespread praise for his classy display on social media, with Bears lauding his recent work.
