Rangers fans have lauded Nikola Katic after his towering header gave the Gers their first win away at Celtic in nine years.

It was a momentum-shifting day at Parkhead as Steven Gerrard’s men once again outplayed the Hoops, but this time they came away with a victory.

On a day when the fine margins of top-level sport were clear for all to see, Katic could so easily have been the villain.

With the scores still at 0-0, his tug on Christopher Jullien’s shirt a little after the half an hour mark, prompted referee Kevin Clancy, to award the hosts a penalty.

Much to the Croatian’s relief, though, Allan McGregor guessed the right way and pulled off a stunning save to beat away Ryan Christie’s spot-kick.

Let off the hook, Katic defended well thereafter, and then made the telling contribution at the top end of the pitch.

Leaping to meet a Borna Barisic cross, the 23-year-old bulleted a header into the bottom left corner beyond a despairing Fraser Forster.

It was his third goal of the season and undoubtedly the most important of his career to date.

He promptly wheeled away to celebrate in front of the away section, roaring and clenching his fists all the way.

Katic has been a big fans favourite ever since he joined the club last summer, but this act has seen his stock rise even further amongst the Rangers faithful, who showered him with praise on social media.
