Rangers fans have reacted with joy to the latest update on Allan McGregor’s future.
The 37-year-old goalkeeper’s current contract is due to expire in the summer [Transfermarkt], but it seems it’s almost certain he’ll continue on for at least another season beyond that.

As quoted by the Scottish Sun, Steven Gerrard confirmed on Friday that there’s a playing-time related clause within McGregor’s deal, which he’s on course to trigger.
“Allan’s situation is pretty self-explanatory. If he plays a certain amount of games another year’s contract kicks in.”
“He’s in a good place, he’s in good form and we expect him to be here next year. That’s never been in doubt.”
There’s set to be something of a goalkeeping exodus from Ibrox in the summer, with Wes Foderingham, Jak Alnwick and Andy Firth all out of contract.
Yet, it seems there’ll be no need to look for a new no.1, with McGregor carrying on.

Despite his advancing age, he’s been superb since rejoining the club from Hull City in 2018, providing a top-quality final line of defence.
The no-nonsense ‘keeper is a hugely popular figure amongst Gers fans and once this contract news broke, plenty were quick to express their delight.
