Rangers fans have heaped praise on James Tavernier after the Light Blues captain returned to action against Hibernian on Wednesday evening.

Tavernier had missed the first four fixtures following the winter break after undergoing a procedure to resolve an appendix issue.

He made it onto the bench for the 0-0 draw with Aberdeen at the weekend, but was named in the starting XI against the Hibees and played the full 90 minutes.

Importantly, it was a winning return to action, too.

After dropped points against both Hearts and the Dons, the title challenge was hanging by a thread, but Tav helped to lift things with a solid display at right-back.

He was quiet in the opening 45 minutes – as were many of his teammates – although he can be forgiven for feeling his way back in considering it was his first start of 2020.

Perhaps buoyed by his role in George Edmundson’s equaliser, the captain drove forward more regularly in the second half, probing Hibs and helping his team dominate the play.

While Matt Polster did well when eventually given opportunities in his absence, the fans were delighted to see Tavernier back, and when he took to social media after the game to mark his return, he received plenty of praise.
