Rangers fans have lauded George Edmundson on social media after the club’s Twitter account revealed images of him in full Gers kit as a boy.

Manchester-born defender, Edmundson, signed for the club from Oldham Athletic in the summer of 2019.

It was a big step up for a player who had been on loan at non-league AFC Fylde as recently as 2018.

However, in the main, he’s equipped himself well since his arrival, making 16 appearances to date.

The 22-year-old was outstanding at the back as the Gers kept an unlikely clean sheet at Braga in the Europa League Round of 32, while he scored his team’s only goal in the defeat to Bayer Leverkusen a few weeks later, in what was the final game before the suspension of football.

He was already a popular figure amongst supporters due to his impressive size and the commitment he’s shown on the field.

These surprising images have shifted that popularity up a notch, though.

On Sunday evening, the club released two pictures of a young boy unwrapping presents in a full Rangers away kit and fans were tasked with working out which member of the current playing squad it was.

Edmundson’s identity was revealed at 9 p.m and he received plenty of praise thereafter.
