Rangers fans have lauded Ciaran Dickson on Twitter after the teenage midfielder vowed to kick on at Ibrox.

Dickson was a key member of the Gers Colts and U20s sides who impressed in the Challenge Cup and UEFA Youth League last season and is still only 18.

However, he was promoted to the Gers first-team bubble earlier this season and made the bench for back to back Europa League fixtures against Benfica.

Dickson was never going to make it onto the pitch in those high-profile matches, but he was given a senior debut in the League Cup tie at Falkirk on Sunday.

With the Gers already 4-0 up and cruising thanks to goals from Jermain Defoe, Calvin Bassey, Borna Barisic and James Tavernier, the young midfielder was brought on for Scott Arfield in the 55th minute.

Dickson got an early shot off on goal and impressed with his tenacity off the ball as well as his positivity in possession.

On Monday evening, he took to Twitter to express his delight at making his first appearance for the club and to target future success.

“Unbelievable feeling making my debut yesterday @RangersFC, hopefully the first of many and the hard work continues,” he wrote.

The post went down extremely well with supporters who were excited by his showing and pleased that he appears to have recognised the importance of getting his head down in training if he is to kick on at the club.
