Rangers fans have lauded Andy Firth on Twitter after he saw some rare first-team action in the midweek friendly against Motherwell.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper made a shock move to Ibrox from English non-league side Barrow AFC in January 2019 to slot in behind Allan McGregor and Wes Foderingham in the pecking order.

Since then, he’s only seen 7 minutes of competitive action for the Gers and didn’t feature at all last season.

He’s become a popular figure amongst the club’s fanbase nonetheless, though, and looks to be a big character in the dressing room.

Therefore, it was well-received when he was subbed on for Jon McLaughlin for the final 15 minutes of Wednesday’s 4-0 win.

Steven Gerrard’s side were home and dry by the time the Yorkshireman came on and he wasn’t overly tested during his brief cameo.

Judging by his follow up tweet on Thursday, though, the player enjoyed himself and some supporters were delighted to see him modelling the new Castore goalkeeping strip.

“Good to be back at Ibrox”, tweeted Firth alongside three action shots from the match.

Here’s a selection of reactions to the tweet from Rangers fans:
