Cheeky Rangers fans have been encouraging the club to move for ex-Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa following his release from the Wanda Metropolitano.

The feisty forward is famed for his gamesmanship and on-pitch character but following three-and-a-half years in Madrid has been released from his contract.

Costa, 32, made his name with the La Liga club at the beginning of the last decade, even being the division’s top scorer during Atleti’s 13/14 championship-winning campaign.

Brazilian born Costa would then move to Premier League Chelsea where he stood out as a no-nonsense striker with a penchant for mischief.

Winning two Premier League titles and a League Cup during his time in West London, Costa would then return to Atletico where he’s largely been in and out of the team.

This season in particular Costa has been limited to only seven league appearances, including only three substitute appearances since mid-October.

A return to the Premier League with Wolves or Arsenal has been mooted as a possibility but Rangers fans have been cracking wise about the 24-times capped Spain forward pitching up at Ibrox.

More specifically, some fans have been salivating over a fantasy link-up between firebrand Diego and Rangers’ resident scowling striker Alfredo Morelos:

There’s obviously no official suggestion Rangers are interested in Costa but given the history of tenuous links to Ibrox you can forgive the Gers fans for having a little fun.

However, there is one South American striker being firmly linked to Rangers with the club said to be 90% of the way there regarding a deal for the player.
