As Celtic prepare to hire a relative unknown in Ange Postecoglou following the collapse of their move for Eddie Howe, Rangers fans could almost set their watch to the media fawning which would seek to put a plaster over the cock-up.
There was a feeling several journalists and media outlets would inevitably start falling over each other to convince Celtic fans this is a good move, because, well, someone’s got to.

There was also a feeling these would the same outlets which claimed Eddie Howe was all but done.
Weeks before the season is set to start our Old Firm rivals remain without a first team coach and have reportedly turned to an admittedly well-respected option from the other side of the planet.
But this very much has shades of the Pedro Caixinha deal and the ex-Australia boss and Yokohama F. Marinos manager is undoubtedly a monumental risk for any number of reasons.
This appointment obviously directly affects Rangers but whilst the Ibrox club appears to be a vision of stability across the city, Dave King’s prophecy about cards collapsing rings truer by the day.
Now, the Daily Record, a newspaper very much kept at arm’s length by Rangers, has been out spinning the Postecoglou disasterpiece as a wonderous example of long-term scouting.
In a fawning piece, they describe the Greek-born Aussie coach as Celtic’s plan B, unfazed by the Howe deal’s collapse and the right man to take them forward into a new era.
They are claiming that Celtic have been tracking Postecoglou for months and we should say there’s no reason for us as a website to discredit anyone else.
But needless to say Rangers supporters – at this point in a near perpetual state of manic laughter at the omnishambles that it is Celtic Football Club at the moment – are not buying it one bit:

There’s plenty more Postecoglou fan pieces out there and whilst this has shades of a panic, back-up appointment, the funniest thing about the entire thing is the reaction of the Celtic fans.
This is a fanbase which had many supporters who genuinely believed their next manager could be Jose Mourinho, Rafa Benitez, even Eddie Howe.
Now they’re reduced to a man who reportedly put his name into the hat to join Rangers in 2017 before the Gers moved for even Derek McInnes before him.
