Rangers fans got a major fright as a leading MLS club announced the signing of an American footballer called Alfredo Morales.
No, that’s not Ally McCoist’s mispronunciation of Alfredo Morelos’ name, it’s a leading USA international midfielder who’s just moved to New York City FC.
Alfredo all in ✔️ @Dumbomoving
Welcome to New York City, @alfredo1008 🗽

The Germany-born defensive midfielder with a Peruvian-born American father and German mother has 16 USA caps and a name which sounds dangerously similar to that of the Rangers icon’s.
Morales, 30, is only a few letters away from becoming Morelos but thankfully the Rangers striker is not involved in anyway with New York’s transfer of the player from Fortuna Dusseldorf.
Up until this point Morales has spent his entire career in Germany, coming through at Hertha Berlin before playing with FC Ingolstadt and then moving to Dusseldorf.
The midfielder will now be hoping to make an impression on the east coast of the United States in the MLS but Rangers fans are breathing a sigh of relief after the transfer showed up on their timelines.
The Ibrox support took to Twitter to collectively wipe the sweat from their brows with Alfredo Morelos still very much a Rangers player:

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos remains the prince of Ibrox Park with the Colombian striker undoubtedly amongst the most popular players in the club’s recent history.
Amid much talk of that Premier League dream, the £20m-rated striker could do well to be careful what he wishes for with Morelos visibly happy at Ibrox.
