Rangers fans group the Union Bears have raised over £11k for the Rangers Supporters Erskine Appeal after selling a special Sing For The Boys t-shirt to the club’s fans.
The Ibrox Ultras group campaigned to sell a special t-shirt which quotes the lyrics of the famous song by Alan Brydon which celebrated the life of ex-Ibrox player turned WWI soldier Jimmy Spiers.
The t-shirt sold for £20 via a pre-order with all of the profit raised going to the Erskine Appeal in a big-hearted gesture from the fans group.
Taking to Twitter, the Union Bears revealed they’d raised £11,081.33 through the fundraiser:
“The Union Bears would like to thank everyone that purchased a Sing For The Boys t-shirt,” said the group.
“An impressive response from the Rangers support allowed us to raise £11,081.33.
“The money will now be passed onto the Rangers Supporters Erskine Appeal. Sing for the boys, sing for them all.”
The fundraiser also comes after the fans group unveiled a special video in commemoration of soldiers from across Scottish football who lost their lives in the first World War.
In a video uploaded to YouTube, the group celebrated the lives of footballers-turned-soldiers who played for Rangers, Hearts, Hibs and even Celtic.
Rangers themselves also paid tribute to those who lost their lives in both wars in recent days after a special Remembrance Sunday display against Hamilton on Sunday.
The club also laid a wreath outside Ibrox Stadium on Armistice Day as they paid tribute to those who lost their lives in both World Wars.
