Rangers’ fans contributions were recognised as work on the exciting new Academy Stand development at the Hummel Training Centre began.

Financing for the stand was partly contributed to by the Rangers Fans Fighting Fund. The group was initially formed with the help of club legend Sandy Jardine to assist the club during administration in 2012.

The Rangers Fans Fighting Fund Chairman Andrew McCormack explained that the Academy stand would act as the group’s “legacy”.

McCormack explained: “A group of us were approached by the late, great Sandy Jardine with this concept of calling on the fans to help assist in probably the darkest hour of the club’s history.

“From that, through many, many fans’ efforts from across the globe, we raised substantial funds. It was a very, very significant sum of money which was put to many varied uses.

“We stand here today and we are very pleased with the fact we have secured a facility for the youth that will be a legacy the Rangers Fans Fighting Fund and all the fans who have contributed to it can come along and look at with some pride.”

As well as the support of the RFFF, a contribution has also been made by the Scottish Football Partnership

Work officially underway on exciting new development

The Academy Stand at the Hummel Training Centre is just one part of the exciting new development. The work will also include a new 216 square metre base for the academy players.

The base will include four new dressing rooms and also an education suite. This will make a massive difference to the time spent both on and off the field for young Rangers players.

Rangers’ fans will be glad to hear this is only part of an array of off-field developments and investments. Rangers have also began work on the exterior of Ibrox Stadium, have plans to lay a state-of-the-art hybrid pitch in the close season and plans are in place for a special memorial garden in the grounds of the stadium.
