Rangers fans have been goading Scotland international midfielder Barry Bannan after an old tweet resurfaces and the player’s Sheffield Wednesday side were relegated from the Championship.

The midfielder had previously tweeted gloating about Rangers’ League Cup exit to St Johnstone back in 2015 following a 3-1 defeat at Ibrox.

Rangers fans certainly didn’t forget the indulgent gloating from the ex-Aston Villa midfielder and as the Owls crashed to the English third tier the tweet resurfaced.

Sheffield Wednesday were relegated as the bottom side in the English Championship on a tense final day which saw them draw 3-3 with fellow relegation rivals Derby County, who stayed up.

The result harpooned Wednesday to the bottom of the division and the club will be hoping to bounce back from League One next season.

Alongside Wednesday, Rotherham and Wycombe were also relegated from the division as Norwich were crowned champions and Watford gained the other automatic promotion slot.

However, for Rangers fans it was the tweet of Bannan – who started his youth career at Celtic – which caught the eye as fans roasted the 27 times capped Scotland star.

The Ibrox support took to Twitter to roast the 31-year-old who recently signed a two-year extension to his deal at Hillsborough which was originally set to expire in the summer:

As Barry Bannan is relegated to the English third tier with Sheffield Wednesday one ex-Rangers star’s new side is set to replace the club in the Championship.
