Rangers fans have been getting emotional after the club posted a stunning photo of Ibrox, with the absence of football beginning to hit hard.

The Gers’ last home fixture was only just over a week ago, as over 47,000 were in Govan for the visit of Bayer Leverkusen.

The away side emerged 3-1 winners from the first-leg last 16 fixture, ending a 17-game unbeaten run for Steven Gerrard’s outfit in European competition.

The silver lining for many fans when they left the stadium, though, was the knowledge that they’d be back just a few days later for an Old Firm.

Yet, that game didn’t take place and neither did the second-leg in Leverkusen which was scheduled for Thursday evening.

With the majority of Europe implementing measures to combat a pandemic, football across the continent has since ground to a halt and return dates are as yet uncertain.

That’s the aspect that’s most affecting fans.

If there were away fixtures either side of an international break, for example, there could be no action at Ibrox for a month. That’s much longer than the current break.

But it’s the prospect of several months of no football whatsoever, that has the fans pining to be back at the turnstiles.

Therefore, when the club posted a stunning photo of a sundrenched Ibrox on social media, it had many feeling emotional.
