Former Scotland goalkeeper Alan Rough has railed against the ban handed to Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara after he was racially abused by Slavia Prague defender Ondrej Kudela.
But the former Hibs, Celtic, and Partick Thistle stopper doesn’t think the ban should be revoked – he believes Kamara should’ve got double the punishment for his involvement in the incident.
Kamara was racially abused by Czech defender Kudela in the Europa League Last 16 clash at Ibrox between the two clubs which Slavia would eventually win 2-0.
As the game approached its later stages, Kudela approached Kamara and whispered in his ear calling him a “monkey”, something which was heard by Gers teammate Bongani Zungu.
UEFA vindicated Kamara by giving Slavia defender Kudela a 10-match ban for the incident, however, this was the minimum punishment available to the footballing authorities.
Slavia would accuse Kamara of an assault in the aftermath of the match – something which was previously described as “fantasy” by the player’s camp – and it is for this alleged incident the Finnish international has been banned.
Rough believes that only banning Kamara for three games sends out the wrong message and he believes the midfielder should’ve got a six-game ban instead.
“I’ve always said that the two incidents are different, they should be dealt with in their own way,” said Rough [PLZ Soccer].
“I personally don’t think it’s sent out the right message for both the fines. If ten games is the minimum then I’d like to know what the maximum is. It should’ve been the maximum [for Kudela].
“As far as Kamara’s concerned, I don’t think three games sends the right message out for assaulting someone in the tunnel.
“In both instances I think it should’ve been stronger punishment. I’m not saying Kamara should’ve been ten, maybe six, but certainly the other guy should’ve been the maximum.”
The comments naturally drew the ire of Rangers supporters who railed against the former Celtic star for the suggestion Kamara deserved harsher punishment.

Rangers midfielder Kamara isn’t the only Ibrox star who’s been banned in the aftermath of the game with striker Kemar Roofe also feeling the wrath of the authorities.
Incredibly, Roofe has been handed a four-game ban for a completely accidental clash with rival goalkeeper Ondrej Kolar, something he saw red for at the time.
