As Rangers dumped Motherwell 6-1 in Lanarkshire the day belonged to Fashion Sakala but fans have noticed that it might’ve also been a big day for another new signing yet to find his feet in Glasgow.

Well, if it hadn’t been for Kemar Roofe.

Zambian striker Sakala netted a hattrick – the first of his career – to introduce himself to the Scottish game and whilst he’s taken the plaudits, Jack Simpson would’ve been hoping for something similar.

The ex-Bournemouth defender was introduced as a substitute with around 15 minutes to play at Fir Park as he tries to find his feet in a competitive Gers side with massive expectations.

So far Simpson has struggled to leave an impression on Rangers fans and amid defensive difficulties at the club hasn’t quite stood up to fill the void left by Filip Helander to date.

Rangers will retain hope the player can make an impression at Ibrox and the sub appearance from Simpson was his first since he played the full 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw against Motherwell in September.

Jack Simpson left gutted by Kemar Roofe Rangers tap-in

With the Gers rampant and looking to add goals to an emphatic performance and result James Tavernier whipped a corner into the box in injury time.

Jack Simpson – in a potentially confidence-boosting moment for the defender – rose highest and showed good strength to win the header and send it goal bound.

Ready to run away and celebrate a major boost to his stuttering Ibrox career, potent forward Kemar Roofe showed up at the back post to tap it home.

It’s what you want to see from your strikers – goals are their commodity and they need to be scoring regularly – but the moment clearly frustrated Simpson.

As you can tell by his reaction, the defender was a bit gutted not to get off the mark for Rangers and fans have picked up on it in Twitter:

Whilst Simpson will understandably be disappointed not to score in the match, the defender did impress after coming on the pitch and he can take a lot of confidence from his performance.

The result puts Rangers further in front in the Scottish Premiership with the Gers extending their lead in the Scottish top flight to four points.

Zambian striker Sakala has earned the plaudits of supporters as fans praise a new hero who stole their hearts with his post-match interview.
