There’s a feeling of overwhelming delight from Rangers fans on James Tavernier’s new contract.
The Rangers captain has signed on until the summer of 2022 in a new four-year deal. Tavernier has been one of the most consistent performers in a Gers shirt since arriving back in 2015.

When it comes to players who have been through the good and the bad, Tavernier fits the bill. His longevity means that he’s been there for the highs and lows of recent years. From dominating Celtic in the Scottish Cup, to losing 5-1 at Ibrox to their rivals, Tavernier has experienced it all.
Supporters, however, have taken the opportunity to rally round their star-man after he signed his new contract.
Expressing their elation through Twitter, the Gers fans couldn’t hold their delight at the news.

The experienced head
You’ll do well to find a more experienced player in the squad than Tavernier these days. It wasn’t long ago he actually penned a new three-and-a-half-year deal last season. Gerrard, however, appears keen to get him tied up himself.
Intriguingly, this might also be a signed contract that sends out a real statement of intent. Tavernier had bids from the likes of West Brom rejected for him in the summer. He’s been Rangers’ first-choice right-back for three years, and he’s one of the manager’s favourites.
There are still big areas that the captain has to improve to his game, however. Defensively, he still has errors in him. If he could brush up on those, then he really could be anything he wants at Rangers.
Backed by a support that love him undoubtedly, Tavernier has it all in Glasgow. His next step is to start ensuring he wins things whilst he’s here, however.
Tavernier simply cannot be called anything remotely close to a club legend until the titles start to arrive. All of the top heroes of the club have been built on successful sides. In truth, Tavernier has yet to play in one.
The Rangers supporters will hope that under Gerrard, that’s all about to change.
