Plenty of Rangers fans have been left buzzing after a stirring statement from Steven Gerrard delivered the news that season ticket prices have been frozen for the 2020/21 season.
Football is rightly taking a back seat right now amid the global health crisis, with uncertainty surrounding both the current campaign and the next.
However, in a message distributed to supporters via the club website, email and social media on Thursday night, the manager praised the resilience of Bears amid these ‘unprecedented times’ and brought news of a ‘reward’ for their loyalty.
The former England international compared his home city of Liverpool with Glasgow, labelling both as ‘resilient’ places.
“I am now proud to manage in a resilient city,” he wrote [Rangers.co.uk]. “Football makes a city, Rangers makes Glasgow.”
“I know nothing but football clubs who have faced down periods of incredible difficulty, but like our cities, because of your support, we will come through again, stronger than before.”
Gerrard went on to reference the wage deferrals announced last month [BBC Sport] as examples of loyalty shown by players and staff alike, before announcing both that season ticket prices have been frozen for the 2020/21 campaign and that the deadline for applications has been extended.
The statement was brought to a conclusion by further uplifting comments:
“There are more chapters to be written in our story,” Gerrard continued. “We can only do that together.”
“We will be ready for whatever challenges come our way in season 2020/21, whenever that begins.
“We need you to be ready too.”
Bears lapped up the manager’s comments, claiming they are further evidence that he knows what the football club is all about.
