Rangers have officially signed Swiss striker Cedric Itten from Swiss Super League runners-up St. Gallen, as the Ibrox club announces their second signing of the day.

The powerful Swiss 23-year-old forward hit 19 league goals for St. Gallen last season and is a six-yard box striker who can play with both feet and is also very useful in the air.

Itten will join up with his teammates when the Ibrox club return from Germany as Rangers prepare to face Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League.

Itten is the second attacking arrival for Rangers today after the club also announced the signing of Kemar Roofe from Anderlecht.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard was delighted to get the signing over the line.

“Cedric is a goal scorer who will add further strength and depth to our squad,” said Gerrard [Rangers].

“I am pleased that a player of Cedric’s ability and potential has decided to join Rangers as he embarks in the next stage of his career.”

Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson also confirmed that this deal was concluded about a week ago, something which impresses the Ibrox faithful.

Rangers’ transfer are routinely tight-lipped and this is just the last example

“This deal was agreed just over a week ago,” explains Wilson, “but with St Gallen in a title race and battle for European places we were respectful of that with the Swiss season only ending on Monday evening.”

Here’s how some of the Ibrox support reacted to the news the powerful forward was signing on at Rangers:
