Rangers fans defend Mo Edu from “classless” ex-Liverpool & Man City pair

Rangers fans have leapt to the defence of Mo Edu and called out Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher and ex-Man City defender Micah Richards for disrespecting him on a TV set.

The former Rangers and United States National Team midfielder was on Champions League duties with the pair when Richards noticed Carragher was Googling the American.

The clip has since gone viral on social media but it is the reaction of the two former players which has jarred plenty of supporters.

Whilst doing research on panel guests and finding out more about players is part of the job, there was certainly a meanness to the reaction as Carragher deflected back onto Edu.

It doesn’t look good and Rangers fans have accused Carragher and Richards of lacking class.

There’s the same kind of ‘schoolground bully with his friend backing him up’ routine in a clip later on too, as Carragher tells Mo to leave the set disguised as a sarcastic joke.

It’s absolutely awful stuff belittling a fellow professional like that, and it says something about the character of both these men.

Fair play to Mo for laughing this nonsense off. Say what you want about him, Jamie, but you won’t find him spitting at children at traffic lights.

Edu – who also spent time at Stoke City but made only one Premier League appearance, against Liverpool in 2012 although Carragher never played – was an established international footballer who made 46 caps for his country.

Starting his career with MLS side Toronto, Edu made 125 appearances for Rangers between 2008 and 2012, winning three SPL titles, two Scottish Cups and one League Cup.

The midfielder also played Champions League football with the Ibrox club.

Mo’s finest hour in a Rangers shirt came when he scored a stoppage time winner against Celtic in a Scottish Premiership clash at Ibrox in 2010.

Rangers fans leapt to the midfielder’s defence as Carragher and cohort Richards were called out for the reaction which certainly wouldn’t have looked out of place on a school playground:

Rangers fans still hold a great fondness for Mo Edu and the collective frustration of the support shows that the midfielder certainly has the backing of the Ibrox fans.

Jamie Carragher might be a lifelong friend of Rangers boss Steven Gerrard, but that means little when it comes to criticising one of the club’s former players.

Meanwhile, Rangers fans have been loving a clip of supporters on a European trip singing a song in homage to the club’s current man of the moment.
