Rangers fans have leapt to the defence of club legend Barry Ferguson after some supporters railed against misrepresented comments in a tabloid newspaper.

Ferguson was criticised by some supporters for allegedly predicting Celtic would go the rest of the season unbeaten due to an article in the Daily Record.

But Rangers supporters have called out the report for what they see as a creative reimagining of Ferguson’s comments and accuse the paper of taking his original statements out of context.

Speaking on the GO Radio Football Show [06/01/21], Ferguson was discussing Celtic’s change of formation and his feeling they will fail to drop any more points this season.

Whilst the Record article highlights these comments, they fail to include his follow up statements which have since resurfaced on Twitter.

When discussing his belief that Celtic won’t “drop any more points” he gave a little context to his thinking.

“Well when I was in that position it was don’t listen to the noise that’s going on outside, people talking about leagues,” said Ferguson.

“You’ve got to just stay focussed and I would be saying to my teammates as well, “I firmly believe Celtic are going to win every single game from now until the end of the season”

“So that keeps you on your toes, and just keep the standards up that they’ve shown all season, as simple as that, don’t let standards drop.

“If you allow that to happen then you could be in for a big fall, so it’s important, that, as your hear the manager and players speak after every single game.

“I think they’ve learnt their lessons from last year, the most important thing is that this group of players stay focussed.”

Rangers fans have leapt to the support of the Ibrox legend  after some Gers fans complained about the original quotes used in the Record:

Ferguson’s comments come after Rangers went 19 points clear courtesy of a 1-0 win over Celtic at Ibrox last weekend in the Scottish Premiership.

In line with his comments, some Rangers fans would do well to cool their jets and save any title celebrations for when the Gers have their hands on the trophy.
