Rangers fans have reacted with delight after the club shared an image of Giovanni van Bronckhorst taking his first training session at Auchenhowie.

GvB’s appointment was announced last week and three members of his backroom staff were confirmed by the club on Monday ahead of his first press conference.

The Gers may have a four-point lead at the top of the Premiership table and still be in with a chance of reaching the knockout stages of the Europa League, but Sunday’s dismal showing in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final against Hibernian showed that the Dutchman has plenty of work to do.

He’s got the initial backing of the vast majority of the fanbase, though, and it gave many supporters a lift to finally see him at the Rangers Training Centre on Tuesday.

The club shared the first picture of him taking training on social media just after 16:30, with the 46-year-old tracksuited up and barking out instructions.

By the time of writing, the tweet had received almost 10k likes and hundreds of replies.

The club subsequently released a training video and a training gallery, both of which showed GvB and his staff putting the first-team squad through their paces for the first time.

They don’t have long to assess the players before they have to pick their first team, with Sparta Prague taking on the Gers in a must-win Europa League Group A clash at Ibrox on Thursday.

Scores of fans have made it very clear who they want to see come into the side for GvB’s first match.
