There’s been plenty of Rangers fans goading their Celtic rivals in recent weeks and the Ibrox fans had plenty more to chuckle about when it came to Parkhead links to Rafa Benítez.

Steven Gerrard’s former manager at Liverpool, Benítez has left Chinese side Dalian Professional mid-pandemic with some reports suggesting Benítez is set to take over at Celtic Park [Mirror].

But the entire thing appears to concern a fake letter seemingly created by cheeky Rangers fans who had the Parkhead club’s number ending in 1872.

Now, respected Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague has rubbished the Celtic reports and also talked down the suggestion Benítez wants a quick return to management.

“Rafa Benitez to Celtic?” tweets Balague.

“There was interest in him but not an option today.

“He’s going to rest for a bit, despite offers (from Germany, also a national side…)

“By the way, about Celtic: there is a false document doing the rounds (check the phone number).”

The fact so many Celtic fans gobbled the letter up had Gers fans in stitches over the weekend and the Ibrox side’s support also jumped onto Balague’s tweet:
