Rangers fans have been blown away after Ibrox star James Tavernier was named alongside Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in a highest-scoring XI created by Football Wave.
The 2020/21 season has been a remarkable one for Tavernier, who despite missing the last five matches through injury, is still the club’s highest scorer with 17 in all competitions.
It’s an incredible tally for a full-back and he also has a remarkable 15 assists in addition to the goals.
While this is his best season to date, Tavernier’s effectiveness at the top end of the pitch is no new development.
He’s received more than his fair share of criticism down the years but that mainly centred around perceived defensive weakness.
The Gers skipper has been an important attacking weapon since joining the club from Wigan Athletic in 2015 and now his remarkable numbers have been put into context.
According to Football Wave, with 71, Tavernier has scored more goals this century than any other right-back.
Therefore, he’s been included in their highest-scoring XI in the 21st century, alongside some of the biggest names in world football, including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and his current manager, Steven Gerrard.
After he drew attention to the XI with a quote tweet on Sunday morning, plenty of Bears heaped praise on the 29-year-old.
