Those Rangers links to former Arsenal and West Ham midfielder Jack Wilshere haven’t gone away and some excited Ibrox fans got carried away with themselves after a photo emerged online.

Wilshere, 28, remains without a club following his release from his contract at West Ham with his associates telling the Press Association he’d consider a move to Ibrox after much fan talk online.

There has never been anything concrete with regards Wilshere – dubious journalist Nicola Schira claiming the two were in negotiations aside – but it hasn’t stopped the chatter.

Now, after a photo emerged online of a faceless individual appearing to be shown around Ibrox Stadium, it got a few fans wondering on Twitter.

But as per usual with Twitter, people can get carried away pretty quickly with these sorts of things.

Making assumptions based on loose links, fan chatter and photographs of individuals at bad angles is a dangerous game and there will be more than a few Rangers fans red-faced this morning.

The image actually appears to show someone completely different in front of numerous media professionals for reasons why have not yet been clarified by the club.

Whilst images taken at the main entrance of Ibrox definitely confirm its not Jack Wilshere, it’s had plenty of fans scratching their head as to who it is.

All will no doubt become clear in due course but in the mean-time Jack Wilshere remains on the hunt for a club and there is no suggestion this will be Rangers.

With the move presenting a risk and Rangers well-stocked in midfield, is it time the fans moved on from the circus surrounding the player?
