The first Old Firm game of this all or nothing season will kick off at 12:30pm on Saturday the 17th of October at Celtic Park, the SPFL and Rangers have confirmed.

The Old Firm fixture is normally played early on a Sunday but the first match between the Glasgow rivals of this season will now take place on a Saturday afternoon.

With Rangers starting the season strongly and Celtic already two matches behind in the title race, the Gers could go into the first Old Firm game at Parkhead with a points advantage over their rivals.

Rangers currently sit six points clear of Celtic who have two games in hand, but with a hectic schedule it is unclear when our Parkhead rivals will be able to play their matches.

The Gers still have five Scottish Premiership matches to play before they travel to Celtic Park, with the game set at the latest possible date in the first round of fixtures after a request by Celtic.

The SPFL came under fire from journalist Darrell Currie after Neil Lennon’s public pleas to move the match back to get fans into the ground were met by the game’s executive.

Nonetheless, it hasn’t stopped the Ibrox support getting excited about the prospect of kicking off against their biggest rivals on a Saturday afternoon.

Here’s how the Gers fans reacted to the news that there will be a Saturday afternoon Old Firm for the first time since 2017:
