Rangers fans aren't buying club's claim Ibrox star was "emotional" at awards show

An “emotional” Allan McGregor picked up Rangers’ official Player of the Year Award at the club’s end of season show – and fans are convinced he’s been celebrating 55 as hard as them.

The veteran Ibrox goalie has had a superb season in royal blue and followed up his official Scottish Premiership award with this in-house commendation.

Receiving the award clearly had a big impact on the goalie who was snapped looking particularly bleary-eyed with the club’s official Twitter account suggesting his pride had made him well up.

But Rangers supporters joked that there was another reason for Greegsy’s bloodshot stare and it maybe had something more to do with celebrating the club’s league title win.

The keeper played a huge role in Rangers’ first title in a decade and was certainly well within his rights to celebrate accordingly.

McGregor wasn’t the only player who was recognised at the awards as a host of top talent earned recognition for their contribution this season.

USA international defender Brianna Westrup won the Rangers Women’s Player of the Year Award for her contribution to the development made by the team this season.

Ibrox kid Nathan Patterson earned the Academy Player of the Year award for his sterling performances in the season he properly announced himself as a Gers player.

Ianis Hagi – who finished the Scottish Premiership’s top assister (11) – earned the club’s Young Player of the Year Award.

Steven Davis earned the John Greig Achievement Award, Connor Goldson the Manager’s Player of the Season Award and James Tavernier earned the Players’ Player of the Year Award.

Tav – who scored 19 goals this season – also earned the Sam English Top Goalscorer Bowl despite playing from right-back.

Strikers Jermain Defoe and Alfredo Morelos were also recognised by the club with awards for reaching 300 career league goals and becoming the Gers all-time top European goalscorer respectively.
