Borna Barisic and Eros Grezda were today partnered for the first time, and Rangers fans are getting excited about it.

The Gers overcame Hamilton Accies 1-0 at Ibrox this afternoon. It was a huge result for the Ibrox club, who move back to the top of the Premiership thanks to Celtic’s defeat at Hibernian earlier on Sunday.

There weren’t too many positives from the 90 minutes when you look at the details of the game. Plenty of chances were created that weren’t taken, which will ironically be the main positive  and negative for Steven Gerrard.

Another, however, has to be the potential of the Barisic and Grezda partnership down the left. Their link-up play and understanding with each other certainly got supporters excited, and they took to Twitter to let everyone know:

Is this the start of a fruitful partnership?

Given the form of match-winner Daniel Candeias, Grezda could do with another route into the side. He’s already operated down the left on several occasions, and is proven to be efficient down that side if given the chance.

Meanwhile, Barisic is still on the comeback trail after suffering a nasty knock a couple of months ago. Fortunately for Rangers fans, however, he isn’t showing any signs that his injury knocks are still evident.

The promise that this new partnership shows will give fans plenty of delight. Supporters will be wary that it was just one match against lowly Hamilton this afternoon, but the promise was still there.

What will be interesting going forward is how this could affect Ryan Kent and Glenn Middleton. The former is still stidelined with a fresh knock whilst Middleton has been deputising. Will the fan demand to see more of this Grezda-Barisic partnership negatively effect Middleton’s game-play?

Regardless, Gerrard will likely stick with the players who are playing well for him. That means that both Barisic and Grezda can’t be touched after a positive display down the left.

Gerrard has been known to tinker, but this must’ve excited him. A positive day with a potentially positive new partnership developing.
