A small number of Rangers fans applauded the team bus out of Rugby Park on Sunday afternoon following the league leaders’ hard-fought 1-0 victory over Kilmarnock.

The Gers triumphed in Ayrshire courtesy of a first-half penalty from James Tavernier, following a handball from Killie defender Ross Millen.

It wasn’t a vintage display, but the win was Rangers’ ninth in a row in all competitions with their current clean sheet streak also extended to six matches.

Most importantly for supporters, though, Steven Gerrard’s side have now opened up a nine-point gap at the top of the table.

The Light Blues capitalised on Celtic’s involvement in the Scottish Cup this weekend and it seems that a few supporters couldn’t resist heading down to Rugby Park to show their appreciation to the players.

Around 15 to 20 fans emerged from parked cars outside the main gates to aim applause towards the team bus as it left the stadium to head back to Glasgow.

It’s still early days in the season, but given Rangers’ poor record at Killie in recent years, it does feel like a significant victory.

With just Benfica and Hamilton Accies to come before the international break, the Gers are sitting pretty in both European and domestic competition.
