Rangers fans have applauded Scottish Premiership rivals Motherwell for a “phenomenal” fan gesture as they launch their season ticket renewals for season 21/22.
The Fir Park club have pledged a season ticket to everyone who purchased one last season free of cost as a thank you for supporting the club through the pandemic.
The Lanarkshire club – who had approximately 4000 season ticket holders in 19/20 – have chosen to honour supporters who’ve supported the club in a move which has been applauded across the game.
The Steelmen might not have an army of season ticket holders like the Gers – something which makes this move much more financially viable – but the club is making a sacrifice here.
This is one of the main sources of income for a club like Well and it’s a bold statement to make after a season of financial uncertainty across Scottish football.
“If you bought a season ticket for 2020/21, we will automatically give you a season ticket for 2021/22 for free,” reads part of a Motherwell statement.
“You do not need to spend any more money. We will honour our pledge and send you a new season card soon.
“We will forever be grateful for your decision to spend money last year when there was no certainty over what would happen next.
“We are incredibly appreciative, considering many of you will have been going through difficult times, worrying about your health, your family and perhaps even your job.
“We want to repay your faith by welcoming you back to Fir Park at no extra cost.”
The gesture is one which has warmed the heart of football fans from across the country and has even caught the attention of Rangers supporters.
