Nikola Katic has spoken about his Rangers future, as quoted by the Daily Record.

The 22-year-old defender had a mixed first season at Ibrox during the 2018/19 campaign, racking up over 30 appearances, but finding himself out of the team for extended periods.

Then, when the club brought in both George Edmundson and Filip Helander this summer, his chances of playing regularly looked slim going forward.

However, he’s shown the best form of his career so far this term and is holding onto his spot alongside Connor Goldson. Judging by his latest comments, that’s a role he wants to keep in both the short and long-term.

Rangers fan favourite Katic is in for the long haul

“If I have to stay at Rangers for my whole life, why not?” said Katic, as quoted by the Daily Record. “Every game you play here at Ibrox is in front of 50,000 fans. You play European games and have a manager like Steven Gerrard, as well as top team-mates.”

“I really enjoy it so if I stay here my whole life, why not?”

Verdict

These comments will go down extremely well with the Rangers fans, amongst whom Katic is already a very popular figure.

He’s a big, powerful, no-nonsense centre-back who so far this season, has got the job done. Against Legia on Thursday evening, he was immense and must take a lot of credit for the Gers emerging with a clean sheet.

Given he is just 22, there’s a lot more to come from the £1.8m-rated defender [Transfermarkt], too. While talk of him staying in Glasgow for the next decade is maybe looking a little too far ahead, it certainly sounds as though he won’t hesitate to sign a new deal, when the club puts one on the table [Daily Record].

Let’s hope he can continue his recent heroics this afternoon when Celtic visit Ibrox.
