Danny Rohl has confirmed that there is an injury blow suffered by a Rangers player and he could be ruled out for weeks.

Ahead of the Dundee United game, the German issued an update on his squad as a number of players were returning from international duty.

He stated that Andreas Skov Olsen was training and will be available after missing the 4-1 loss against Aberdeen.

Mystery Rangers player to be ruled out for weeks

Rohl did not reveal the identity of the player as he stated that there had been an injury in the squad.

The Gers boss said that he hoped for him to be back before the split, but he is likely to return after it.

This would mean that the mystery player will be ruled out for weeks and the Light Blues will have to cope with his absence.

The good thing is that there are no other major injury concerns for them, barring Bailey Rice, who has been ruled out until the end of the season.

Even if fit, he would not have been a regular starter, but it feels like the player who is injured could be a key player.

Speaking about the injury, Rohl said: “We have some small issues, one bigger issue, one player will be out for tomorrow.

“But I will not speak today who it is, but you will see it. It’s a bit of a shame, in training, but it happens in football.”

When asked if the player would return imminently, he responded: “Unfortunately, not. It will be a little bit longer.

“Hopefully he comes picked in before the split, but it looks more that he will come during the split.”

How Danny Rohl will respond to the new injury setback

Injuries are part and parcel of football and the positive for Rangers is that this system under Rohl does not rely on one player to pull the strings.

Even when someone like Mikey Moore, Tochi Chukwuani or Tuur Rommens is not on the pitch, they still look like a quality side.

Missing someone like Emmanuel Fernandez in defence would be a blow, but John Souttar has stepped up in the past and is an experienced senior player who can deal with the pressure.

The starting eleven against Dundee United will give a clearer idea as to who the player really is.
