Rangers are reportedly interested in a deadline day move for midfielder Muhamed Besic who currently has a year to run on his deal with Premier League Everton.

The Liverpool Echo claim that Rangers are interested in signing the box-to-box midfielder ahead of the transfer deadline this evening.

The window is set to slam shut at 11pm tonight and Rangers are hard at work in the background trying to get deals done.

Bosnian international midfielder Besic, 28, was first linked to Ibrox by the Bosnian press last week with later reports claiming he was on the way to Glasgow for a medical.

These claims were rebuffed by Steven Gerrard but according to the Echo Rangers remain interested in trying to broker a deal for the player.

Besic spent the last two seasons on loan at Middlesbrough and Sheffield United respectively and has found himself on the fringes of the Everton squad of late.

Despite training with Carlo Ancelotti’s high-flying side in pre-season the former Hamburg midfielder is deemed surplus to requirements at Goodison Park.

Besic isn’t the only midfielder being linked with a move to Ibrox either.

Rangers are said to be “close” to securing a loan deal for South African international midfielder Bongani Zungu.

Should the Gers get that deal over the line it would represent a positive conclusion to the biggest transfer saga of the summer.

Rangers have also been credited with interest in Hudderfield’s Dutch midfielder Juninho Bacuna [Nixon].
