Rangers are expected to consider Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes as a potential replacement for Michael Beale.

Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Aberdeen proved to be the end for Michael Beale as he was sacked late on Sunday night.

Rangers have decided to move on from Beale less than a year since bringing him back to Ibrox.

The search for a new boss is now on with a number of names already linked – including a manager Rangers targeted some six years ago…

Derek McInnes expected to be in Rangers contention

The Daily Record claim that Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes is ‘expected to form part of the conversation’ with James Bisgrove identifying potential appointments.

AZ Alkmaar boss Pascal Jansen and Yokohama F. Marinos manager Kevin Muscat are also mentioned as being contenders alongside McInnes.

McInnes, 52, spent time with Rangers as a player having joined from Greenock Morton back in 1995.

The move was a huge moment for McInnes, who admitted that Rangers was the team of his dreams and that he had always been a fan of the club.

McInnes played 52 times for Rangers as a midfielder before moving on to West Bromwich Albion in 2000.

An Ibrox return would surely appeal to McInnes, but fans will be sceptical about a potential move…

McInnes won’t set Rangers pulses racing

McInnes has done a fine job at Kilmarnock, masterminding wins over Rangers and Celtic already this season.

There were also great things done at Aberdeen too but managing Rangers is completely different.

The expectation levels are huge; not just to win but also to win with some style.

McInnes has never really played with the kind of style Rangers fans would like to see; his style was described as being long ball by former Aberdeen player Kari Arnason.

Add in that McInnes snubbed a move to Rangers back in 2017 and some fans will have reservations about pursuing him again.

We just aren’t convinced that McInnes is the man to really take Rangers forward, even if he has done well with Kilmarnock.
