Rangers exit finally near for Jason Holt following Development XI absence?

On Tuesday afternoon, we covered the shock of some Rangers fans at learning Joe Dodoo was still at the club.

They were alerted to his continued presence when he was selected for a Rangers Development XI that travelled to Fleetwood Town for a friendly.

Joining him in the side that eventually ran out 2-0 winners, were the likes of Graham Dorrans and Eros Grezda. Both senior players who are frozen out of first-team operations at Ibrox.

Their inclusion in the fixture was presumably an attempt to put them in the shop window and to prove their fitness to potential suitors.

Jamie Murphy, who Steven Gerrard has already tipped to head out on loan [Daily Record], was also involved.

That means all the senior players out in the peripheries started the game – apart from Jason Holt.

Rangers exit finally near?

There’s no doubt Jason Holt did a job every time he pulled on the Light Blue jersey. Yet, it’s clear Steven Gerrard doesn’t rate the 26-year-old.

He hasn’t played a minute since the ex-Liverpool star was appointed to the Ibrox hot seat, spending last season out on loan at Fleetwood Town. He’s very much in the same position as Dorrans, Grezda et al., yet didn’t return to his old side for the friendly.

Hopefully, that’s an indication that a Rangers exit is in the pipeline. There are just two weeks left in the transfer window and if an opportunity arose to hold talks with an interested party, it would have taken priority over playing in this fixture.

Holt is rated at £675k by Transfermarkt and has a year remaining on his Ibrox deal, so it’s possible that the Gers could receive a fee for him. Yet, given he is clearly surplus to requirements, it’s unlikely they’d get anywhere near even half of that figure.

The main thing for both parties is that Holt finds a new home before the deadline and hopefully, the end is now in sight.
