Rangers’ Europa League rivals Aris Limassol have been handed a fine by UEFA.
And it is centred around an incident which occurred at Ibrox during the 1-1 draw between the Cypriots and Philippe Clement’s side in November – a match Gers fans would like to erase from their memories.
Rangers were huge favourites to get a result against Aris that night and place Europa League qualification to the knockout rounds in our own hands.
But as we know, things didn’t work out how they should have. Aris unfortunately opened the scoring in that game through Shavy Babicka’s strike in the first-half. But Ross McCausland – who was the replacement for the hooked Todd Cantwell – levelled things up.

But Aris players were furious with McCausland’s strike being allowed to stand because they believed a foul had been committed by a Rangers representative in the build-up.
As such, at least five of the Cypriot outfit’s players surrounded referee Rohit Sagg in an act of protestation.
But Sagg heard nothing from his VAR colleagues to suggest the goal should have been ruled out and McCausland’s equaliser – quite rightly – was legal.
Aris’ protests have got them into bother with UEFA and the governing body have issued them a fine totalling €7k for their improper conduct.
Aris Limassol finished bottom of Group C with just four points. But every point they picked up came against Rangers.
That is unacceptable from a Rangers standpoint but it matters little now given the Ibrox giants eventually finished top of the section and advanced to the next round.
