Rangers Euro rivals RB Leipzig have suffered a late defeat in their final game before Thursday’s Europa League semi-final clash – conceding twice in the last few minutes to lose 2-1 to Union Berlin.

Leipzig took the lead early in the second half through Yussuf Poulsen before Michel’s 86th-minute equaliser was followed by an 87th-minute winner.

With Rangers the visitors on Thursday, the Light Blues will be hoping they can inflict another defeat on the Germans and put themselves in the driving seat for a place in next month’s final.

The defeat sees Leverkusen leapfrog Leipzig into third place in the Bundesliga table and leaves them only two points ahead of Freiburg in the race for the final Champions League spot.

Unlike their Europa League rivals, Rangers were comfortable winners today against Motherwell and Gio van Bronckhorst’s side will take confidence ahead of their trip to Germany.

A win away from home in the first leg would be an incredible result for the Light Blues – but even returning to Scotland with a draw ahead of the Ibrox second leg would be a great position to be in.

However, after the defeat, Rangers must make sure they aren’t on the receiving end of a backlash from RB Leipzig and don’t allow themselves to make silly mistakes.

Wins over the likes of Dortmund have shown this Rangers side are more than capable of going to Germany and getting a result – although it will be much harder without players such as Alfredo Morelos.

That shouldn’t stop Rangers having a go though and Thursday’s game is one the Gers are very much able to win.
