Rangers Euro flashback amid brutal hammering and post-Ibrox redemption

Rangers fans got a Europa League Final flashback over the weekend as two key parties in now OGC Nice midfielder Aaron Ramsey and Eintracht Frankfurt suffered differing fortunes.

The Gers painfully lost out to the Bundesliga club on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the roasting hot heat of Seville with Welsh international Ramsey the man to miss the decisive spot kick.

But both returned to football action this weekend with the former Rangers midfielder enjoying considerably different fortunes in France to Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany

Europa League winners Frankfurt kicked off their Bundesliga campaign by being thrashed 6-1 by German Champions Bayern Munich.

What’s worse the demolition took place in front of Frankfurt’s own fans as Bayern’s £35m summer signing Sadio Mane opened his account and stole the headlines in Germany.

FC Hollywood have won the last ten Bundesliga titles and in thrashing the winner of a European competition, they’ve shown it’ll be a tall order to stop them recording an 11th.

Ten of the eleven Eintracht Frankfurt players who started against Rangers in Seville started this match, with the inclusion of Mario Gotze over Daichi Kamada the only change.

It shows not only the gap between the rest of the German clubs and Bayern Munich but also between the top end Champions League sides and the rest of Europe.

It also highlights that if Rangers had a fully team fit against the Germans things might’ve been considerably different.

Aaron Ramsey in debut Nice goal as Bayern humble Frankfurt

As Eintracht Frankfurt were picking up the pieces of a demoralising defeat to Bayern Munich, Aaron Ramsey was starting his personal redemption story in France.

The ex-Juventus midfielder has signed with the Ligue 1 club after being released this summer despite having a year left on his deal and Ramsey has started in France as he means to go on.

Aaron Ramsey netted a late equaliser for OGC Nice in their 1-1 Ligue 1 draw away to Toulouse, the midfielder showing quality to smash the ball into the top corner in his first game for the club.

Interestingly, this came after Rangers-linked Thijs Dallinga had netted the opener for Toulouse.

Aaron Ramsey didn’t exactly have the best spell with Rangers at Ibrox and struggled badly for fitness as he recovered from a string of long-term injuries.

But kudos to the midfielder for signing a deal in France when he could’ve reportedly gone to the States as the ex-Arsenal star, 31, looks to prove his doubters wrong after a difficult few years.

Meanwhile, a £10m-rated ex-Rangers star suffered debut heartbreak south of the border.
